Marriage and the Mormon Church

Marriage and the Mormon Church

If there is one thing Mormon’s place great importance on, it is marriage… and for good reason. Marriage is eternal. Picking your partner is pretty dang important. I don’t know about you guys, but there are few people I would want to spend ETERNITY with. So, what I’m going to say below is 100% my opinion and you may not agree with it. That’s okay.

I am thankful that God chose to bless me with children before he gave me a husband.. (I’m still hoping that one day I will have a mate)..

Now stay with me here… I don’t want to lose anybody with this twisted way of thinking or give anybody the wrong impression.

I believe God had a plan by doing this.

Because of my children I came to have a relationship with God that I don’t think I would have had otherwise, at least not at this point in my life, perhaps not ever. Because of that I am immensely blessed.

God’s Plan

So far, God’s plan has been preparing me for what is to come. I have been a single mother my entire mother-hood. A week before my first child was born, his father committed suicide.

Yet, because of this, I have been able to devote my time and attention to my children. If I were married throughout the struggles I have been through with each of my children I don’t know if the marriage would have lasted. I didn’t have a God (meaning a relationship with God) to rely on when times were tough. Only when my last child was born did I develop that relationship.

I received something else when I formed that relationship with God. I got a new-found way of thinking about relationships. I realized that when my partner does come that I will be more prepared for the changes and challenges and have learned valuable lessons/tools to help me along the way in that journey.

Until then I will let the Lord continue to prepare my heart for an eternal marriage with that one special person.

Are you married? If so, what advice would you give to a newly wed couple to help them keep their marriage strong?

Marriage is not easy. It requires a lot of work, love, and patience. Accept your partner for who they are, don’t try to change them or you are going to have problems. Do not take problems outside your marriage, work on them together.
