I constantly see people blaming the obesity epidemic on fast food. Guess what? It isn’t WHERE you eat but WHAT you eat. It’s totally possible to eat at McDonald’s 3 times a day, 7 days a week, and still make healthy choices. This menu plan – divided into breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks – gives you One Week of Healthy Meals at McDonald’s.

Pick one from each Category. Mix and Match as desired. All of these options are under 400 calories each*. That means you can pick one from each category and still not be at the recommended 2,000 calorie diet.

Breakfasts:

Fruit and Yogurt Parfait
Fruit and Maple Oatmeal

What would your meals look like for a day if you chose one from each category? 

I would choose: Fruit and Maple Oatmeal, Filet o Fish w/ Side Salad, Artisan Grilled Chicken Sandwich, and for a snack a baked apple pie.

5 Ways to Get Your Kids to Eat Healthy at McDonald’s

The New Year is quickly approaching and that means nearly every adult is thinking about getting healthy. But wait! What about the children? They can make healthier choices too! We all know that kids love McDonald’s so here are 5  Ways to Get Your Kids to Eat Healthy at McDonald’s.

5 ways to get your kids to eat healthy at McDonald's

  1. Get them involved in the choice. Go to the McDonalds website and use the meal planner to mix and match meal choices to get a fit that is right for your childrens’ nutrition needs.
  2. YOU pick the meals for them. Easy enough, right? If you are choosing the meals, then you can choose the healthiest options.
  3. Make the choices fun or educational by challenging them to stay within a certain calorie limit. Alternately, teach them about the FDAs recommended daily allowances and have them plan a meal using the FDA nutrition guidelines.
  4. Have a pre-determined list of meal options that they can choose from. Keep this list handy to allow them to make choices quickly.
  5. Eat the same meal as your children. It’s no surprise that children mimic what they see us do.  Help demonstrate healthy meal options to your children by choosing a meal that your children can copy.

Bonus! – Keep them active by letting them play at a McDonald’s PlayPlace. McDonald’s PlayPlaces are fun, safe environments where your kids are free to run, climb, jump, and slide their energy away!

Remember, it’s not where you eat, but what you eat. McDonald’s uses the same fresh ingredients found at your local grocery stores to prepare their meals. If you want to eat healthy at McDonald’s, then it’s up to YOU to make the right choices.

      We often take for granted the ease of obtaining a hot meal. Help those that are less fortunate and feed a hot meal to a person in need.

      I don’t know about you, but I love getting gift cards. Gift cards for food? Even better! Hint: Kids love receiving them in their stockings!

 

    1. Make a gift basket

    1. Volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House Charities
      Families who stay in the RMHC are often there during the holidays and appreciate any visits or meals provided to them. Hang out with them, or prepare a fun activity. They will enjoy the nice distractions.

 

    1. Donate Pop-Tabs
      Know somebody who collects pop tabs for RMHC? Donate your pop tabs to them.

 

    1. Bring coffee and cookies to work
      Co-workers will love you when you show up with McDonald’s boxed coffee and cookies.

 

  1. Play-Date at McDonald’s
    Do you remember how much fun it was going to the Play Place when you were younger? Grab your kids, and some of their friends, and head on over to McDonald’s for a play date.  The key is to take some of your kids’ friends with you. Their parents will love you.

Total blogger fail, y’all. I had planned to start out this post by telling you the results to a Facebook poll about people’s signature McDonald’s meals. Somehow, I either never hit publish, or deleted that post! I can’t find it anywhere!

With that being said, I am often curious about other people’s eating habits. When I am in line behind somebody at the grocery store, I often sneak a peek at the items on the conveyor belt. When they order in front of me at McDonald’s, I listen to what they order. I call this “Food Watching”. Ya know, kinda like people watching, but for foodies ;)
