VenturianTale Birthday Party! (Happy Birthday Aybra)

VenturianTale Birthday Party!

Can we just pretend for a moment that it is NOT May and I put this birthday post up months ago? Aybra’s actual birthday was in March. – For her birthday she requested a VenturianTale theme. For those who are not familiar, VenturianTale is a Youtube gaming channel and just so happens to be her favorite one.

VenturianTale is a pretty popular channel among kids her age, but like 99.9% of other Youtube channels it doesn’t have party decorations available. Bummer, right?

Nah! No problem!

I made Aybra’s decorations. Luckily for me their logo is pretty basic and the colors are common. (blue background, red triangle, yellow “V”).

I could not find an image of their logo that was suitable for my needs, so I made my own copycat version of their logo. This was the foundation for all other decorations.

I used various sizes of this image on top of a blue table cloth as confetti. I made and printed everything last minute, so I didn’t have time to do this, but wanted to add some of them to red cups.

The menu was surprisingly difficult to figure out. VenturianTale is composed of 4 different kids (Jordan, Isaac, Ciera, and Bethany). Their last name is Frye. I knew that we would be having “French Fryes” but I couldn’t decide what else to make with it. I ended up making quite a few different food labels to choose from.

Like other birthdays, I tried to incorporate the theme into the food. I used their names and things unique to their channel to create labels for the food. I served hamburgers, hot dogs, and some sides. Hardly any of the party guests recognized the references, but Aybra was happy with her VenturianTale Birthday and that is all that matters.

Her grandpa made her cake and I did my best to decorate it. It definitely tasted better than it looked! I also made her birthday banner (link to download at the bottom of this post) but probably could have printed it out at 50% of its original size and/or figured out a way to get two images on one page. It ended up being quite large, but still fine. I saved it to re-use for Losh’s party coming up soon.

Aybra only asked for Five Nights at Freddy’s plushies. From the time I put them on my Amazon wish list to the time I ordered, the price went up significantly, so she ended up getting only one from me (Foxy). My sister bought her Freddy and she has been carrying one with her all the time. She got plenty of other presents and didn’t seem to mind that she had to wait for the rest of the collection. I think this VenturianTale Birthday party scored right on par with her puppy birthday party from last year.

I did take quite a few pictures, but apparently not of the other decorations or food! This happened to be a large party compared to our normal parties, and I was quite distracted. (I usually try to get pictures before the guests arrive, but the food was being grilled and wasn’t ready until after many people were there)

Prepare for cliche….

“I can’t believe she is 8 years old”. It really does seem like just a moment ago she was a tiny baby in the NICU, and now here she is half-way grown! I’m so blessed to have her in my life. She has never been a girly girl, but with the age 8 came a slight change in her. She has a sudden interest in some girly things and I couldn’t be happier! Losh’s party is coming up next and he is still undecided, but leaning towards Batman for a theme.  Guess I better prepare for that!

Do you have any cute Batman party ideas?

Do your kids watch VenturianTale?

Practice Makes Progress

Practice Makes Progress

Practice Makes Progress.

This is a phrase I say often. I don’t believe in Perfection, and teaching my kids that if they practice something they will perfect it seems wrong to me. Instead, we strive for progression.

Practice Makes Progress - A gentle reminder that perfection isn't required

As you saw in my 2016 goals post, I didn’t quite complete all of my 2015 goals, but I did make progress. I think part of that was because I just simply didn’t look back/read them often enough. To avoid that, I have printed my 2016 goals out and hung them in my bedroom where I will see them everyday as a reminder of what I want to accomplish.

Nevertheless, I wanted to share the progress of my 2015 goals. I added notes for some goals inside parenthesis. I plan on completing the list in 2016. I put a strike through the goals that were completed.

2015 Goals Progress:

Delete old blog posts – edit/bump some others for SEO (Deleted some, but didn’t edit any for SEO)
Make better/Pinnable images
Blog 1-2 times weekly with focus on Reach and interaction (I think I averaged 1 post a week overall if that counts)
Set up social media scheduled shares
Update social media kit regularly
Promote YouTube channel more!! (Though not as much as I should have, I did get better at this)
Clean sidebar including: About Me. Popular Posts
Define and stick to my niche
Reach level 50 in Diablo 2 :)
Read 12 new books for FUN I read 41 books in 2015.
Complete my 30 before 30 list
Learn new makeup techniques
Complete 12 craft/DIY projects
Teach Aybra to read!
Teach Losh to write his last name and 1-20
Serve others
Save save save (Saved and then drained it.. so while not a complete failure, it ended up being a fail)
Create more income (Need steady income)
Build more friendships
Create more worksheets
Take family pictures (Selfies don’t count!)
Day and Night family prayer
Visit the zoo – maybe a new one
Visit a new park
Swim more  (We didn’t swim much, but more than the previous year, so I am counting this as a success)

Did you complete all of your 2015 Goals?

I find it easier to complete my goals if I make them according to what I am already focused on doing.

Mommy Scenario Tag – YouTube Video

What type of Mommy are you? Are you a push-over who often gives into the kids, or a ‘stand firm and don’t give in’ type of Mommy?

After I did this little tag video I realized I am a pretty tough “Don’t Give In” Mommy. I don’t give in to my kids often. I set boundaries and they generally follow them. They understand there are consequences for their actions, and the disobedience is pretty rare.

Watch the video at the end to see my answers to these 8 questions:

1. Your kid is refusing to eat dinner, do you stand your ground and demand they eat what you made? Or make something else?

2. Your kid has a melt-down at the store, nothing is working to calm them. Do you leave & come back another time, or grit your teeth and finish shopping?

3. Your kid gets too many toys for their birthday, do you make some returns or save them for a rainy day?

4. Your kid is protesting sleep, do you give in at 3am, get them up & turn on a movie? Or continue to rock them, nurse, etc to try to get them back to sleep?

5. You have an appointment and no babysitter- do you bring them with you or reschedule?

6. You have 20 minutes until unexpected company arrives. Do you rush to clean up your messy house, or just figure- “hey, it’s okay. I’ve got kids!”

7. You’re running late & only have time to do your hair or makeup- which do you choose?

8. You’re at the park and another child pushes yours, do you intervene and correct them- or go find the child’s parent?
